Why time tracking without a phone?
In many companies, phones should play no role at work: sensitive areas ban phones entirely, some employees do not own a smartphone – and many simply do not want to install a company app on their private device, often out of fear of being monitored. Classic time tracking apps fail at exactly this point. That is why LiteLog offers two ways to record working hours on site without employees needing an app on their own phone: the stationary terminal at the site and sign-in via messenger. Both provide the same audit-proof records as the LiteLog app – start, end and work site, live in the dashboard.
- ✓Phone ban at the workplace? Time tracking still works
- ✓No obligation to install an app on private phones
- ✓The same audit-proof records as with the app

Option 1: Stationary terminal on site – no smartphone at all
A fixed terminal is set up at the entrance or in the work area – a tablet in kiosk mode or a stationary NFC reader. Employees sign in and out with their personal card or chip. No personal smartphone is needed at any point. The terminal is ideal for entrances, sensitive areas and teams without smartphones. Every sign-in and sign-out is documented in an audit-proof way with time, site and person, and appears immediately in the live dashboard. LiteLog sets everything up together with you – from the right device to issuing cards to the team.
- ✓Fixed terminal: tablet in kiosk mode or NFC reader
- ✓Sign in and out with a personal card or chip
- ✓No smartphone and no app required for employees

Option 2: Sign in via WhatsApp or Telegram – without an app
If the real problem is not the phone itself but the app installation, the messenger option is usually the cheaper and simpler solution: employees simply message the AI assistant Hannah in WhatsApp or Telegram and share their location to sign in and out. Nothing needs to be installed, no account created and no company phone purchased – a messenger is already on practically every phone. Hannah automatically assigns the message to the right site and shift. Compared to a terminal, no additional hardware is needed on site at all.
- ✓No app installation, no extra device, no company phone
- ✓Sign in and out by sharing your location in a WhatsApp or Telegram chat
- ✓Automatic assignment to site and shift by AI assistant Hannah

Terminal, messenger or app – which fits when?
The three options can be combined freely – even within one team. The stationary terminal is the right choice when no phone should be involved at the work site at all: fixed sites, entrances, sensitive areas. The messenger option fits when employees carry a phone but do not want to install a company app – especially with many changing field service sites where hardware is not worthwhile. The LiteLog app remains the most convenient option for everyone who wants to use it: with NFC, QR, GPS and beacon check-in (the app automatically suggests checking in as soon as a Bluetooth beacon is in range), offline mode and guard tours. All three options write to the same time tracking system and the same dashboard.
- ✓Terminal: fixed sites and areas entirely without phones
- ✓Messenger: many changing sites, no app requirement, no hardware
- ✓App: full feature set with NFC, QR, GPS, Bluetooth beacons and offline mode

Privacy: sign-in and sign-out instead of surveillance
The most common concern behind the wish for phone-free time tracking is the fear of surveillance. LiteLog takes it seriously: only the sign-in and sign-out at the work site are recorded – not the location history, not the behaviour in between. With the terminal, only a timestamp at the device is created anyway. With the messenger option, the location is transmitted only at the moment employees actively share it to sign in or out. All data is hosted on servers in Germany, processing is GDPR-compliant, and access rights can be granted granularly per role. That creates the transparency that convinces works councils and teams alike.
- ✓No continuous tracking, no movement profile
- ✓Location only on active sign-in or sign-out
- ✓GDPR-compliant, hosted in Germany, DPA included

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about LiteLog
Does LiteLog work entirely without a phone?
Yes. With a stationary terminal on site – a tablet in kiosk mode or an NFC reader – employees sign in and out with a personal card or chip. No smartphone is needed at any point.
Do employees have to install an app on their private phone?
No. Besides the terminal, there is attendance tracking via WhatsApp or Telegram: employees share their location with the AI assistant Hannah in the messenger to sign in and out. No app installation is required.
Are employees monitored or continuously located?
No. Only the sign-in and sign-out at the work site are recorded. With the messenger option, the location is transmitted only at the moment it is actively shared. There is no movement profile and no continuous tracking.
Which is cheaper: terminal or messenger?
The messenger option needs no additional hardware and is therefore usually the cheaper and simpler solution for many changing work sites. A terminal pays off mainly at fixed sites with many employees, or wherever no phone should be involved at all.
Do we need company phones for employees without their own smartphone?
No. That is exactly what the stationary terminal is for: employees without a smartphone sign in with a card or chip directly on site. Purchasing company phones is not necessary.
Can terminal, messenger and app be combined?
Yes, freely – even within one team. All three options write to the same time tracking system. Dispatching and reporting run in one shared dashboard, regardless of how individual employees sign in.
Is time tracking without a smartphone GDPR-compliant?
Yes. LiteLog is hosted on servers in Germany, all entries are stored in an audit-proof way and a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is included. Access rights can be granted granularly per role.
